Question # 3:

1. Describe or define KBS.
is a special kind of database for knowledge management. it provides the means for the computerized collection,organization, and retrieval of knowledge.

2. Distinguish KBS from MIS.
Some knowledge bases have artificial intelligence component. these kinds of knowledge bases can suggest solution to problems sometimes based on feedback provided by the user, and are capable of learning from experience. In MIS, computers cannot create business strategies by themselves they can assist management in understanding the effects of their strategies, and help enable effective decision-making. MIS systems can be used to transform data into information useful for decision making. Computers can provide financial statements and performance reports to assist in the planning, monitoring and implementation of strategy

3. Illustrate (give examples) how KBS can improve company's competitive advantage and organizational performance.Cite your reference
A pedriatic research group at the British Columbian's Children Hospital has created a knowledge base authoring tool called iknow. it is used by clinicians at the hospital to develop knowledge rules for improving patient care in surgical operations. A decision support system then runs the rules in the operating room to assist anesthesiologists in dealing with adverse events. the knowledge base developed is machine-readable, and using iknow it is also human-readable.
